Belfast-based start-up secures £700,000 funding to transform lung cancer diagnostics

Biomarx has raised £700,000 in pre-seed funding to progress a diagnostics platform focused on lung cancer. Founded by Sean Macfarlane, the platform is intended to lower the technical and cost barriers associated with next-generation sequencing. The funds will take Biomarx from proof of concept to a minimum viable product, fund ISO 13485 accreditation, and support a preliminary lab-based clinical study.

Biomarx attracts £700,000 in pre-seed funding for lung cancer genomics

Biomarx's first test kit will target non-small cell lung cancer, one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers worldwide, using circulating tumour DNA to enable earlier detection and support more informed treatment stratification. The round was led by SFC Capital alongside Clarendon Fund Managers, with additional backing from the University of Strathclyde, Techstart Ventures and a group of angel investors.

Biomarx has closed its first ever investment round, led by SFC Capital and Clarendon Fund Managers, with additional support from the University of Strathclyde, our angel investors, the InterTradeIreland Seedcorn Competition and a Techstart Ventures Proof of Concept Plus grant. The funding takes Biomarx from proof of concept to MVP, funds ISO 13485 accreditation, and supports a preliminary lab-based clinical study.
